Fidèles du festival, chers adhérents,
Ce mercredi 19 mars, de Marianne à Maggie, d’un hommage à l’autre, la journée sera encore bien remplie.
Marianne Faithfull ouvrira le bal à 10h à Carré d’Art avec The Girl on the Motorcycle (La motocyclette). Pour rendre hommage à cette icône des années 60, nous avons choisi ce petit bijou signé Jack Cardiff en 1968 dans lequel elle partage l’écran avec un certain Alain Delon.
Dans la même salle, à 14h, pour découvrir ou redécouvrir ce grand réalisateur injustement oublié, Anthony Asquith, nous vous proposons The Winslow Boy (Winslow contre le roi), sorti en 1948. Fans de procès, vous allez adorer !
Au même endroit, à 16h, dans le cadre de la thématique Black in Britain, vous verrez Pool of London, un haletant thriller de Basil Dearden de 1951 sur fond de trafic dans le port de Londres.
Ces deux derniers films vous seront présentés par un spécialiste, le critique de cinéma Justin Kwedi.
A 18h15, le Sémaphore prendra le relai avec The Flats, le poignant documentaire irlandais d’Alessandra Celesia sur l’histoire des ‘’Troubles’’, ces décennies de violence en Irlande du Nord entre 1960 et 1998.
Marianne Faithfull aura ouvert le bal, Maggie Smith le refermera à 20h30 avec The Lady in the Van (2015), dans lequel Nicolas Hytner offre à cette grande dame du cinéma britannique l’un de ses plus beaux rôles avec plusieurs prix à la clé. A ne pas manquer !

Dear friends of the festival,
This Wednesday 19 March – from Maggie to Marianne, from one tribute to another – promises to be another busy day! Marianne Faithfull gets the ball rolling at 10.00am at the Carré d’Art
with The Girl on the Motorcycle (1968). To pay tribute to this icon of the 60s, we have chosen this little gem directed by Jack Cardiff, in which she shares the screen with a certain Alain Delon.
Also at the Carré d’Art, at 2.00pm, discover or rediscover this great, yet unjustly forgotten director, Anthony Asquith, with a showing of The Winslow Boy (1948). It’s based on a true story, and if you’re a fan of legal trials on film, you’re going to love it!
Also at the Carré d’Art at 4.00pm is Pool of London (1951), a breathless thriller by Basil Dearden about smuggling and more in the port of London – another feature of the ‘Black in Britain’ theme.
These last two films will be introduced by film critic and expert Justin Kwedi.
At 6.15pm, the Sémaphore takes over with The Flats (2024), Alessandra Celesia’s poignant Irish documentary on the history of the ‘Troubles’ – the decades of violence in Northern Ireland between 1960 and 1998.
While Marianne Faithfull opened the day, Dame Maggie Smith brings it to a close at 8.30pm with The Lady in the Van (2015), in which Nicolas Hytner offers this grande dame of British cinema one of her finest roles, which brought her several awards.

CHANGE OF VENUE : On Friday 21 March at 4.00pm, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie will be shown in the Salle Terrisse at the Lycée Daudet and not at the Carré d’Art as printed in the programme. We are delighted to welcome Chris Larkin, celebrated actor and the son of Dame Maggie Smith, who will be introducing the film and talking about his mother’s work, together with her biographer Michael Coveney via video link.
